It’s no secret that the Rutgers Scarlet Knights aren’t known for their football prowess. Still, what they managed to do Saturday is beyond the pale.
Rutgers lost 35-0 to Indiana on Saturday. They managed just 75 total yards and six first downs, but the most remarkable stat came from quarterback Johnny Langan. He completed just five passes for a grand total of one yard, a historically bad mark.
Rutgers quarterback Johnny Langan finishes the game 5/13 for 1 yard passing. This is the most completions for fewest yards since 2000. The next lowest total yardage for 5 completions was 46 yards.

How does that happen? Langan only completed two passes for positive yardage — a four-yarder and a three-yarder. His other three completions were for losses of three, two, and one yard. His final completion of the day came with 13:08 left in the second quarter.
The Scarlet Knights are now 1-5 and clearly going nowhere. They’re two weeks removed from firing head coach Chris Ash, and it’s no wonder that their most successful coach in recent memory has been linked with a return.
