The No. 1-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes appear to be a juggernaut as head coach Ryan Day prepares his team for the final three weeks of the regular season. Despite playing with a slow pace, Ohio State's offense appears to be almost unstoppable, and hardly anyone can score on their defense. The scary part for opponents is that the weakness of Ohio State's defensive personnel is apparently improving.
There aren't many spots where you can see areas for better play across the Ohio State roster. The guard play, specifically on the right side, isn't good. The same has been said at defensive tackle after Hero Kanu transferred to Texas this offseason, though Kayden McDonald has been fantastic.
Day took the podium earlier this week and gave Buckeyes fans some encouraging news about the rest of the tackle group as the team prepares to take on UCLA.
McDonald has been one of the best defensive linemen in the nation this season, and Ohio State has seen a surprisingly good output from Will Smith Jr. The depth along the unit was a concern entering the year, and Eddrick Houston was supposed to be the star. Instead, Houston has struggled with impact and consistency, and he hasn't been alone.
Houston moved from defensive end to tackle in the middle of his freshman season last year and had immediate success. Now bulked up, Houston admittedly hasn't been as committed and hard-working until lately. Defensive coordinator Matt Patricia has still fed him the third-most snaps at the position, but Smith has almost caught up.
Day said Tywone Malone could have played against Purdue, but the Buckeyes decided to hold him out. Day expects Malone to have a full week of practice.

Day said Eddrick Houston is starting to "play his best football" and that Jason Moore "flashed" against Purdue.
The good news from Day is that Houston has been playing "his best football," and that veteran Tywone Malone Jr. is healthy enough to play moving forward. Malone missed last week and is second on the unit in snaps behind McDonald. PFF hasn't graded either Malone or Houston well.
However, Jason Moore has indeed "flashed" to PFF and Day. The 303-pounder has only been on the field for 27 snaps, but the team is ready to get its less-experienced bodies playing time as UCLA and Rutgers are up next before Michigan. While Ohio State will win big in both games, the defensive tackle subplot is a key one for this defense to hit its immense ceiling.
