Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes are fresh off a College Football Playoff national championship victory and in search of another deep postseason run in 2025.
While countless college football programs suffered mass transfer portal losses this offseason, the Ohio State roster is holding strong as the 2025 college football season quickly approaches.
In fact, not a single scholarship player is leaving Columbus through the transfer portal this offseason.
When asked about this accomplishment during a press conference on Tuesday, Day gave a blunt response about his team's recruiting strategy.
"We want guys who want to be at Ohio State," Day explained. "If we have to talk you into coming to Ohio State, if money's the first thing you're looking for — this isn't the right place for you."
"If people chose Ohio State because they want to come to Ohio State, they're more likely to stay," Day continued. "That's just the philosophy that we've had here for a long time. But now more than ever because of the way things are. I think guys enjoy being at Ohio State. They like being here. As long as they're being valued, they're going to stay."

Ryan Day says if they have to talk a player into coming to OSU it’s not the right fit.

This statement from Day sparked a mixed bag of reactions from around the college football world.
Some praised Day for this approach. Others pointed out the fact that Ohio State reportedly spent around $20 million on last year's championship roster.
"Man it’s one thing to SAY that…but then to actually stick to your guns and still get the talent and culture he’s made is incredible. [GOAT] in the making," one fan wrote.
"Didn't they have a $20 million roster last season lmfao?" another added.
"He’s built an excellent culture and program doing things the right way. And he doesn’t get nearly enough credit for it outside of Columbus," another said.
"Translation: We back up the Brinks truck, but pretend we don't pay," another wrote.
Didn't they just have the highest NIL last year

Ohio State has the nation's No. 4 ranked recruiting class heading into the 2025 season, trailing only Texas, Georgia and Alabama. There's no question each of these programs spent a significant amount of NIL cash on these highly-touted recruiting classes.
Day and the Buckeyes will kickoff their 2025 college football season with a highly-anticipated matchup against Texas on Aug. 30.
