On Tuesday, Iowa landed South Dakota State quarterback transfer Mark Gronowski. The Hawkeyes added someone for him to throw a few days later.

On3 reported Thursday that Tennessee Chattanooga receiver Sam Phillips was committing to Iowa. He became the program's fifth-known pledge from the portal this cycle.

Phillips (5-9, 185) entered the portal on Dec. 8. The Georgia native visited Iowa City just before Christmas. He also reported scholarship offers from USC, Memphis, Pittsburgh and others.

A member of the 2021 high school recruiting class, Phillips red shirted as a true freshman with the Mocs. During his three seasons on the field, he caught 153 passes for 2,088 and nine touchdowns. He hauled in 49 balls for 803 yards and three scores in '24.

The Hawkeyes are addressing a passing offense that ranked 131 out of 133 FBS teams this past Fall. They're hoping Phillips is another piece of the puzzle.
