Scott Satterfield, Brendan Sorsby Update UC Football's Winter Program
USA TODAY Sports

Scott Satterfield, Brendan Sorsby, and the Cincinnati Bearcats football team are hard at work in winter workouts trying to correct a disastrous 3-9 2023 season.

Satterfield and Sorsby met with the media on Monday as the head coach continues to assess this team and anotherĀ

"You can sweep it under the rug and act like it didn't happen, but it did," Satterfield said about the 3-9 2023 campaign. "We didn't like it. Nobody liked it, obviously. ... We wanted to recognize what happened. All right, and how did that happen? And what can we learn from it? I think anytime you go through something tough and we did it was very difficult. I mean, I think about coming to this press conference after the games sounding like a broken record... We have to learn from that so we don't repeat that."

The early quarterback battle action is encouraging Satterfield, who noted its too early to tell who's using to the top.

"They're so fun to be around," Satterfield said about the quarterbacks. "They're competing their butts off, they all are, and that's what you want to see. To be able to see that competition and this is going to help them grow. And we want that from every position. Whenever you see unselfish play, particularly at that position of quarterback and then you know, and see how those guys perform each and every day... We want that at every position."

Sorsby is looking to capitalize on some strong moments as a freshman at Indiana and win his latest QB competition earlier than he earned the IU job last season.

"Whenever I entered the portal and out of all the coaches that recruited me I felt like I connected best with this staff here," Sorsby said about his decision to pick UC. "Especially coming on my visit. It just felt like the place that I was meant to be at. So yeah, like Joe said I'm excited to be here. The transition has been good. Just ready to get into spring ball.

Sorsby is the favorite to win the job due to experience and other financial incentives. Still, he knows it must be proven on the field with Spring Practice as the first big gauge.

"Just playing ball and whatever happens happens but you gotta go out there every day and stay even keel and just work," Sorsby said about quarterback competitions. "It's really all it comes down to is you just got to be ready when the when the opportunity comes and make the most of it."

There are now 27 new players enrolled since the start of the new semester as Cincinnati continues efforts to catch up to the rest of the Big 12 as it expands to 16 teams this coming school year.
