SEC Power Set To Host Alabama Transfer QB

The Alabama Crimson Tide lost quarterback Dylan Lonergan to the transfer portal and there's now a possibility that they could be seeing him again really soon.

ESPN's Max Olson reported on Sunday that Lonergan is expected to visit Georgia this week. UGA emerges as a new potential landing spot for the QB just a few days after Boston College was deemed a "school to watch" for his services.

This would be a return home for Lonergan, who grew up an hour away from Athens in Snellville, GA. Recruited by Charles Kelly and Bill O'Brien, he was a four-star prospect in Alabama's 2023 recruiting class where he early-enrolled that January. Unfortunately for him, the presence of Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson ahead of him on the depth chart prevented him from getting any significant playing time as he made just eight pass attempts through his two years in Tuscaloosa. And he most likely would've remained in a backup role with No. 2 QB Keelon Russell set to arrive next season.

A potential move to Georgia would be intriguing as the Dawgs try to figure out their quarterback situation for the 2025 campaign. Starting quarterback Carson Beck was almost a lock to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft, but the elbow injury he suffered in the SEC Championship Game has opened up the possibility of him returning to college fot one more season. If Beck does decide to move on, backups Gunner Stockton and Jaden Rashada would battle each other for the starting job in the offseason. Given these moving parts, there's an opportunity here for Lonergan to throw a wrench into those preconceived plans and swipe the starting job for himself.

Alabama will travel to Georgia on September 27 in what should be yet another high-stakes, early-season showdown. When the Crimson Tide walk into Sanford Stadium, there's now a possibility that they will be greeted by a familiar face in Lonergan.
