The Texas Longhorns saw multiple defensive linemen hit the exits when the transfer portal opened earlier in the week. Their replacements are now on the way.
Former Purdue defensive lineman Cole Brevard is expected to transfer to Texas, per Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports. Brevard visited Austin on Friday following a quick trip to fellow College Football Playoff contender SMU and decided to spend the 2025 season with the Longhorns. As a grad transfer, he will have just one year of eligibility remaining.
The Carmel, IN, native was a a three-star prospect in the 2020 recruiting class and spent his first two years in college at Penn State before transferring closer to home at Purdue. Brevard proved to be a solid contributor to the Boilermakers' defense, culminating with him notching 19 tackles and 1.5 sacks to earn All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors this season.
Following the conclusion of Purdue's abysmal 1-11 season and the subsequent firing of head coach Ryan Walters, he joined the mass exodus of Boilermaker players to enter the transfer portal. As mentioned before, both Lonestar State teams to make the College Football Player showed interest in the veteran lineman and he ultimately decided to spend his last year of collegiate eligibility in the SEC.
Texas experienced plenty of d-line attrition when the portal opened with Jaray Bledsoe, Aaron Bryant, and Tausili Akana all tossing their names in. Sydir Mitchell also briefly flirted with the portal before deciding to stay put in Austin.
With the likes of Alfred Collins and Vernon Broughton expected to depart for the NFL Draft, the Longhorns were in desperate need of veteran bodies to fill the gap. A player like Brevard can come in and contribute immediately, easing the pressure off the staff being forced to throw bluechip signees like Josiah Sharma, Justus Terry, and Myron Charles right into the fire.
