The Alabama Crimson Tide has emerged as the frontrunner in the race to secure the commitment of 5-star linebacker Xavier Griffin, according to a recent report shared by On3 Recruits on X.

Griffin, a standout from Gainesville High School who previously decommitted from USC on May 14, 2025, is one of the most coveted defensive prospects in the 2026 recruiting class.

With Alabama’s logo prominently featured alongside Griffin’s image in On3’s post, the SEC powerhouse is now the program to watch as Griffin reevaluates his future.

Griffin’s decommitment from USC opened the door for programs like Alabama, Georgia, and Texas to intensify their pursuit.

Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer, who has faced skepticism about his ability to recruit in the South, is proving doubters wrong.

Fans have noted DeBoer’s recruiting prowess, with Alabama potentially landing multiple 5-star prospects, including Griffin, Cederian Morgan, and Brandon Arrington.

Griffin’s impressive junior season stats—43 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks, and a forced fumble in just eight games—make him a game-changer for any defense.

Alabama’s storied history of developing elite linebackers, combined with Griffin’s childhood fandom of the Crimson Tide could give them the edge.

However, competition remains fierce, as Texas remains a leading contender after Griffin’s recent unofficial visit and the Longhorns’ staff checking in on him.

Meanwhile, Georgia is also in the mix, hosting Griffin shortly after his decommitment. As the recruiting battle heats up, Alabama’s momentum under DeBoer signals their intent to dominate the 2026 class and reestablish themselves SEC dynasty.
