Shane Gillis took a shot at Nick Saban and the Alabama football program on Friday night.
Before the Indiana-Notre Dame game kicked off, Gillis discussed how Notre Dame has a shot to win it all this year since it can also pay players, not just Alabama.
“Now that everybody can pay their players Notre Dame has a shot. Not just the SEC and Coach Saban," Gillis said.
Gillis thinks that even more NIL came around, Alabama and Saban were paying players to play for the program. He's a stand-up comedian and actor so stuff like this comes naturally to him.
When Saban heard about those comments, he issued one heck of a comeback.
“I do believe in integrity. I always tried to run the program that way, so players had a better chance to be successful in life. We made more money in the NFL than any other school, 61 players in the league. That was how we cheated, we developed players," Saban said.
Gillis had nothing to say to that and laughed with the rest of the College GameDay crew.
When you come for the greatest head coach in college football history, you better not miss. Saban built a powerhouse during his time in Tuscaloosa and developed a lot of players for the NFL.
Saban retired at the end of the 2023 season, leading to Kalen DeBoer replacing him as Alabama's head coach.
Notre Dame took down Indiana in the first round of the College Football Playoff on Friday and will play Georgia in the Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day.
The rest of the first-round games will be played on Saturday, leading to the quarterfinal matchups in a week and a half. The winner of those quarterfinal games will then meet in the semifinals before the top two teams square off in the National Championship Game.
