A man from Georgia who is suing the NFL after Shedeur Sanders‘ fall in the NFL Draft filed an emergency motion this week, according to WSB-TV in Atlanta. The man first filed the federal lawsuit on May 1.
On Monday, the fan and his attorney filed an emergency motion for “early and targeted discovery” request. They are asking for multiple document and recording requests from the NFL for “uncovering the truth.”
The fan and his attorney are asking for, “All internal communications, including emails, text messages, and memos between NFL executives, league officials, and team general managers, representatives, scouts and owners, relating to Shedeur Sanders from January 1, 2024, to May 1, 2025.” They also want, “All scouting reports, internal assessments, draft boards, and interview notes used by NFL teams when evaluating quarterbacks in the 2025 Draft.”
When it comes to audio, the man called “John Doe” wants, “Any audio or video recordings of team meetings, draft room communications, or NFL Combine sessions involving Sanders,” and, “Communications with third-party media outlets regarding the narrative and public portrayal of Sanders before the draft.”
The motion also asked for, “All documents related to the NFL investigation into the prank call placed to Shedeur Sanders, which resulted in fines for an assistant and the Atlanta Falcons.” It also asked for, “The results or report of the inquiry into why the personal phone number of Shedeur Sanders provided to the NFL was released to waiver wires.”
Shedeur Sanders was projected to be taken in the first round of the NFL draft but was chosen by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round. Shortly after Sanders was selected by the Browns, Chris Simms of NBC Sports explained why the former Colorado QB dropped in the draft.
“This happens every year in the draft,” NBC Sports’ Chris Simms, a former NFL quarterback, said, per NBC News. “Too many people early on in the process — too many unqualified people — make qualifying statements. And it misleads the public. I’ve been saying for six weeks, don’t be surprised if [Sanders] falls.”
