Time is slowly but surely running out for the New York Giants to make one of the most important decisions for the franchise in years: If quarterback Shedeur Sanders is on the board when they're on the clock with the No. 3 overall pick, do they select him?
It's a decision that will have a gigantic impact on how the rest of the 2025 NFL Draft plays out but none of that should matter to the Giants. For general manager Joe Schoen and Co., it should all be about Sanders. Do they believe he's the right guy or not?
Even Draft experts don't appear to agree. NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah ranks him a Top 20 prospect. Dane Brugler has him at 34th. He's a Top 5 prospect for ESPN's Mel Kiper!
Sanders has been the subject of controversial evaluations because though the traits are not elite, he's accurate. The arm strength is adequate but he hits his receivers and goes through his reads well. The football world seems to have different opinions about how much that's worth. Additionally, about three out of four pass completions traveled under 10 yards in the air and his pocket poise is often criticized but Colorado's O-line was a nightmare at times. It's a debate where it's easy to choose either side.
But a quote from Sanders has recently surfaced that could very well be his ultimate case to be a Top 3 Draft pick by the end of the month, pointing to his "edge" over other prospects with a message that proves he's ready for the pressure of NFL quarterbacking.
"I feel like nothing can faze me mentally, because I've been in the most high-pressure situation that there is to be known," Shedeur said in short interview with National Football Scouting (NFS) brought to light by ESPN's Kalyn Kahler. "That's the edge I have over any other player, because they haven't dealt with expectation immediately."
NFS conducts interviews for prospects at the NFL Combine that are then distributed to each team. Sanders explained the pressure he deals with in detail as the son of Deion Sanders, an NFL Hall of Famer—a label that falls short to describe his greatness and fame within the sport—and controversial college football head coach Deion Sanders.
"See, a lot of people got to grow their name, and they had to build their name. They were nobody, then became someone. Being the son of my dad, you somebody [from the beginning]," Sanders added. "Pressure-wise, expectation-wise, I always had it my whole life. So going to an NFL franchise is not going to change anything for me, it's just another day in the life."
Many other factors will determine Sanders' draft position when it's all over but if the Giants want a reason to pick him, the young quarterback gave them one with the above message.
