The NFL Draft is always unpredictable, but few expected Shedeur Sanders and Quinn Ewers to still be waiting this deep into the process.

Sanders, once projected as a first-round pick, has now slipped past the third round, leaving many wondering what went wrong. The Colorado quarterback put up impressive numbers last season, throwing for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns, but concerns about his transition to the NFL, along with whispers about his father’s influence, may have contributed to his slide.

Ewers, meanwhile, was widely expected to go in the second or third round, but his name has yet to be called. The Texas quarterback threw for 3,472 yards and 31 touchdowns last season, leading the Longhorns to the College Football Playoff semifinals. While his arm talent is undeniable, questions about his consistency and ability to read defenses at an elite level have seemingly hurt his stock.

The fall of both quarterbacks has sparked plenty of debate. Some analysts believe teams are simply prioritizing other positions, while others think concerns about Sanders’ leadership and Ewers’ long-term potential have played a role.

Regardless of the reasoning, both quarterbacks entered the draft expecting to hear their names much earlier than this. Now, they wait, hoping a team sees the value that many once projected.
