Shedeur Sanders' shows true colors at Browns minicamp

Sanders enters a crowded quarterback room that includes fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, and Deshaun Watson, who is expected to miss the season due to an Achilles injury.

Despite his draft slide from a projected top pick to the 144th overall selection, Sanders is embracing the challenge with confidence. He was reportedly the last player off the field during Friday’s session, signaling his determination and focus. Sanders looked crisp on Saturday and Sunday with several highlights from the minicamp. 

Analysts have noted that Sanders' fall in the draft wasn’t due to a lack of talent. Some scouts had second-round or even late first-round grades on him. However, his unique situation being the son of Hall-of-Famer Deion Sanders and playing for his father at Colorado may have complicated evaluations from both media and NFL insiders.

However, Sanders is using the situation as motivation. He cited Tom Brady’s legendary rise from a sixth-round pick to seven-time Super Bowl champion as inspiration, stating, “My story’s going to be similar.” For Sanders, draft position is now irrelevant. What matters is proving himself every day.

As the Browns await the release of the 2025 NFL schedule on May 14, Sanders is focused on preparing for the season opener. His work ethic and leadership will be key as he attempts to climb the depth chart and carve out a meaningful role with the team.
