Head coach Sherrone Moore and the Michigan Wolverines landed a massive commitment on Wednesday. Star Mansfield (Texas) High School wide receiver Zion Robinson opted for the Wolverines over Miami and Stanford.

It was quite a win for Michigan, who wasn’t even a part of Robinson’s finalists a couple of months ago. At the time, the Texas native was choosing between Miami, TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech, Stanford, Arizona, and Illinois.

Robinson is highly regarded from a recruiting rankings perspective. He currently sits as the No. 71 overall player, No. 7 wide receiver, and No. 10 player in the state of Texas on the 247Sports ranking. That’s quite the compliment with how much top talent the state of Texas consistently puts out.

Outside of the Wolverines, Robinson sports an a really impressive offer list. Some of the other top programs that have offered him include Texas, Notre DameOklahoma, Oregon, LSU, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Florida, Michigan State, SMU, Arkansas, Kansas State, Vanderbilt, Kansas, Illinois, and Purdue among others.

As a junior, Robinson hauled in 34 receptions for 485 yards and eight touchdowns. The 6-4, 185-pound athlete also added another 76 yards rushing on the ground, and is expected to make a massive leap as a senior for Mansfield.

While Robinson is a bit of a raw football player, he brings the combination of size, explosiveness, and playmaking upside that the Wolverines need desperately at the wide receiver position. It’s unlikely he plays a lot as a freshman in 2025, but it isn’t unreasonable that Robinson could carve out a niche as a vertically oriented weapon.

In actuality, the Wolverines haven’t really had that type of player since Nico Collins. Having the talent to stress a defense versatility is a huge advantage. Robinson, at his peak, could develop into a difference maker in the boundary. Pulling that profile out of the Lone Star State is a massive victory.
