Skip Bayless Declares Brock Purdy Is More Valuable than Christian McCaffrey
USA TODAY Sports

Former Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey had a career day on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, as not only did he break a record held by Jerry Rice but he also dove right into the MVP conversation

In the 49ers' 35-16 thrashing of the Arizona Cardinals, McCaffrey recorded over 170 yards of offense while adding four touchdowns en route to helping the team stay undefeated. His performance was so strong that former Stanford and NFL star Richard Sherman made a case for him being MVP on a recent episode of Undisputed.

However, while McCaffrey may have all of the hype behind him right now, Sherman's co-host Skip Bayless made a case for a different 49er in quarterback Brock Purdy.

Bayless explained that the quarterback is the most important position in football, and since the team is undefeated more credit should go to Purdy than McCaffrey.

If you are the 49ers, you have to love having two MVP candidates in the same backfield, but for fans across the NFL, the debate over who is more valuable has only just begun.

McCaffrey has rushed for 459 yards on 5.7 yards per carry with six rushing touchdowns, while adding 18 catches for 141 yards and a score through four games. Him winning the MVP would be just the first running back since Adrian Peterson in 2012 to do so.

If either Purdy or McCaffrey won the MVP award, it would mark the first time since 1994 when quarterback Steve Young won the award, that a 49er was able to bring it home.
