It’s no secret that Colorado head coach Deion Sanders does things his own way, but a recent decision involving his program is starting to catch a lot of flack on social media.
On Monday evening, the Buffaloes announced that they would retire numbers No. 2 and No. 12 in honor of Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter’s contributions to the program.
While Heisman winner Travis Hunter is absolutely a deserving member of Colorado’s elite group of retired athletes, Shedeur Sanders, on the other hand, just simply isn’t.
It didn’t take long for viral reactions to pour in on the situation, and here are some of the best takes from X.

This program is a joke. https://t.co/lXrizqbxfy
This is insane. The hype they drove was very fun, but a career record 1 game above .500 and getting your jersey retired is as gimmicky as it gets. Go to CU if you want average as the new excellent, I guess! https://t.co/tNAo5IhlGL

Like nobody can wear these numbers ever again?!?!?! This is crazy for 2 years of enrollment and no championships. https://t.co/GLVjjvOOjc

I’m really not trying to come off as a hater… but why? For what? Didn’t they have a .500 record at CU?

And not even a conference championship https://t.co/rOaDRDEomR
Imagine if tcu retired every number of players who participated in an Alamo bowl https://t.co/RrCiUiQVLJ
