South Carolina was, and should be, better than the 2025 season, and it'll take a little luck for the schedule to be easier.

Last year, the Gamecocks played five teams - granted, all in the SEC - that ended up with ten or more wins, including four that went to the College Football Playoff. There are problems this year, but it's a bit more manageable early on.

Here's our analysis of the 2026 South Carolina schedule.

The Good, the Bad, and Who South Carolina Misses in 2026

The Good

Five of the first six games are against teams that didn't finish with winning records - Mississippi State wasn't bowl eligible, but it ended up in one - and four of the first five games are in Columbia.

There aren't two road games in a row, the team only leaves South Carolina once in November, and ...

The Bad

The second half of the season is a total bear.

It's bad enough to go to Alabama at the end of Alabama, but assuming Florida will be stronger, having to deal with three of last year's playoff teams in four games before closing at Clemson isn't nice.

What SEC Teams South Carolina Will Miss

Auburn, LSU, Missouri, Ole Miss, Texas, Vanderbilt.

Missing Texas, LSU, and Ole Miss is good, and Auburn is the only team of the six that didn't go bowling last year. The Gamecocks miss four teams they lost to.

South Carolina’s Best and Worst Case Scenarios in 2026

Best Case: They win the 50/50 games early on

South Carolina beat the four teams that ended up with losing records, and lost to the eight teams that didn't. This time around, it rips through the first half of the season and starts beating the good teams.

It pulls off an upset at Alabama and is bowl eligible by the time it goes to Oklahoma. It pulls off a few key wins to stay in the hunt for the College Football Playoff going into the Georgia game, or ...

Worst Case: The wheels fall off

There's no problem with Kent State or Towson, and then the Gamecocks drop the SEC opener at home to a feisty Mississippi State.

After road losses to Alabama and Florida, the Shane Beamer hot seat is flaming, and it's all over after dropping the date at Oklahoma. Another year, another losing campaign, and the program starts over in 2027.

Games That Will Decide South Carolina’s Season

1. at Alabama, Sept. 26
The Gamecocks pulled off the thriller over the Tide in 2010, and before that, they hadn't won in the series since 2004. Beat Mississippi State and then win this, and the hype will kick in.

2. Tennessee, Oct. 24
The Volunteers have won four of the last five, but after getting a week off to prepare, South Carolina needs this before dealing with ...

3. at Oklahoma, Oct. 31
Oklahoma won in a 26-7 blowout last year, South Carolina won in a 35-9 blowout two years ago, and those were the only two times the schools had met.

With Texas A&M next, the Gamecocks could use the road W.
