Ole Miss is looking to rebound from a humbling loss to Kentucky at home last week, but their matchup with South Carolina won't be as easy as it might've been. The Gamecocks released their latest injury report with updated statuses for offensive stars LaNorris Sellers, Rocket Sanders, and Juice Wells.
Gamecocks' quarterback LaNorris Sellers was sidelined due to an ankle injury in Week 4 but managed to use the bye week for recovery, returning to practice on Wednesday, as confirmed by coach Shane Beamer.
His name appeared as the starting quarterback in the team's depth chart released on Monday, indicating he's likely ready for action.
Running back Rocket Sanders had a brief appearance last week, carrying the ball only once before an ankle injury took him out for the rest of the 50-7 victory over Akron. Coach Beamer has anticipated Sanders' participation in Saturday's game.
“LaNorris and Rocket were both out there. They both looked good,” Beamer said. “Were they 100 percent? I wouldn’t say they were 100 percent, but they both told me they felt great. And they look good, and they’ll both be able to do even more tomorrow, I would think, as well.”
The upcoming game will also see the return of former South Carolina wide receiver Juice Wells to Columbia.
After starting his college career at James Madison, Wells played two seasons with the Gamecocks. Now, with the Rebels, he has made 14 receptions for 274 yards and scored four touchdowns this season.
Wells is part of a prolific Ole Miss passing offense that averages 390.4 yards per game, ranking them second in the nation. South Carolina's defense is bracing for the challenge, aware of the multiple threats they must contain.
