There were multiple occasions within the past decade and a half where Stanford was home to the best backfield in the country.

Most recently it was Christian McCaffrey and Bryce Love, but before them it was Toby Gerhart. In the present day,  the fans are hoping that EJ Smith can be the next great one, and Troy Taylor and his new staff are hoping to continue to build that legacy of elite running backs, as they sent out an offer to one of the best high school running backs on the market.

Five-star running back out of Mater Dei, Jordon Davison, took to Twitter on Tuesday to announce that Stanford was the latest program to offer him.

Davison ranks as the No. 1 running back in the country, No. 1 player in the state of California, and the No. 14 player in the country according to 247Sports. The Cardinal obviously won't be the only program vying for his services, as Davison holds nearly 50 offers already from programs such as Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, and USC among others.

One relationship that may help Stanford is the fact that they are viewed as the favorite to land 2024 quarterback Elijah Brown who happens to not only be one of the best recruits in the country, but the guy who hands the ball off to Davison, as the two play together at Mater Dei.

If the Cardinal are able to land the pair of Mater Dei stars, it would be a monumental achievement for the new staff, who again shows that they will look to re-establish their brand on the recruiting trail.
