FRISCO - In a monumental kitchen-sink rant from ESPN blowhard Stephen A. Smith, the $100 million Bristol opinion-giver is telling the world that he's fed up with the mistreatment of Shedeur Sanders, comparing it to what once happened to Colin Kaepernick.
Colorado quarterback Sanders has dropped in this 2025 NFL Draft like a lead balloon. The belief from many was that Sanders would be a high first-round pick.
Problem? That "belief'' came via family-first promotion from his dad and CU coach, Dallas Cowboys icon Deion Sanders ...
And then was swallowed up whole by people like Smith, who barely know whether a football is stuffed or blown up.
How many teams passed on Shedeur in Round 1?
All of them.
How many teams passed on Shedeur in Round 2?
All of them.
When the Pittsburgh Steelers passed up on him with the 21st pick, it became apparent
And why? Making himself part of the problem here - Shedeur is surrounded by yes men who keep telling him he's being persecuted - Smith refuses to believe this is about an evaluation ...
Same as with any other player.
After the second round ended without Sanders' name being called, Smith jumped on social media to call it a "disgrace" that Shedeur had slipped.
"This is a damn disgrace,'' Smith wrote. "How in the hell is Shedeur not off the board, not drafted yet. Y’all still think this doesn’t have anything to do with teams hatin on Deion Sanders? This kid is a first-rounder.
"In a different way, this is Kaepernick all over again…..being kept out. A damn disgrace. I don’t care what anyone says!"
Kaepernick played in the NFL from 2011-2016 before teams blackballed him for his sociopolitical views. Logically, there is absolutely no tie between the two situations.
Teams are deciding that Sanders' talent doesn't match the hype.
And with Smith jumping on "Team Sanders'' with such a transparent goal - he wants to pull up a chair to the table of controversy - he is unwittingly adding to the teams' justification.
