Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian has turned the program into a conference title and national championship contender in four years.

Last season, the Longhorns qualified for the SEC Championship Game and the 12-team CFP. However, it was not always easy for Sarkisian and Texas.

He went 5-7 in his first season and faced challenges in rebuilding the program. On a recent edition of "Always College Football," Sarkisian mentioned how difficult internal growth and recruiting were early on.

Fast forward, and Sarkisian had 12 players taken in the 2025 NFL Draft and currently holds the top class in the 2025 cycle via On3 Sports

"And one the internal growth in the program with what we were doing and trying to change the culture because I felt like that was one of the key issues that we were having," Sarkisian said. "Two, the types of players that we were recruiting into the program, which I think has grown exponentially. We went from you know a top-five recruiting class three years ago to a top-three recruiting class two years ago to signing the number one class in the country last year."

Texas has some work to do to claim the top class in 2026, but the Longhorns have still put together solid commits. The class is highlighted by five-star quarterback Dia Bell, five-star edge rusher Richard Wesley and four-star athlete Jermaine Bishop Jr.

The team's class currently sits at No. 13 overall.

Things have not been perfect in recruiting for Texas, however. The Longhorns lost the race for four-star cornerback Chace Calicut to the Georgia Bulldogs.

On the same episode, Sarkisian also revealed how he has constantly reminded his staff of the 5-7 season in 2021. However, he has not missed a bowl game since then.

Texas faces the Ohio State Buckeyes in its season opener on August 30.
