Stuck in Rice: QB J.T. Daniels hopes fourth stop offers him a fix

J.T. Daniels, much like an old iPhone, hopes getting stuck in rice will lead to a successful reboot.

On Tuesday, the former highly touted prospect announced his decision to transfer to Rice University. He played at West Virginia last season after stops at Southern Cal and Georgia.

The move out of the spotlight of a Power Five starting role could be the best thing for him as he'll have a chance to play with far less pressure. A strong 2023 could rehabilitate his image.

He showed glimpses of why he was so highly graded out of high school when he transferred to Georgia for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. During those two seasons, Daniels played in nine games, completing 69.5 percent of his passes for 1,953 yards and 17 touchdowns with five interceptions.

He was promising enough that at this time last year, some fans clamored for the Bulldogs to move Daniels back into the starting QB role over Stetson Bennett for the team's SEC Championship Game loss to Alabama.

Kirby Smart stuck with the walk-on over the prodigy, and Daniels transferred to West Virginia ahead of the 2022 season. He was benched on Nov. 12 against Oklahoma after combining to go 15-of-34 for 146 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in the span of two weeks.

Daniels, whose college career began at USC in 2018, is 589-for-937 (62.9 percent) for 6,947 yards with 45 touchdowns and 25 interceptions in 31games.

He failed to cook with the Trojans, Bulldogs or Mountaineers. Daniels is hoping Rice is more palatable.
