The Tennessee Volunteers are on a roll. They're undefeated (6-0) and coming off a huge win over the Alabama Crimson Tide. It was a 52-49 win over the No. 3 ranked Crimson Tide and it was a statement game for head coach Josh Heupel and the Volunteers.
As a result, the AP Poll made a statement of its own, giving Tennessee its best ranking since the 2004 season.
Tennessee is now ranked No. 3 nationally, behind just 7-0 Georgia and 6-0 Ohio State.
As mentioned, the last time the Vols reached these heights in the AP Poll was in 2005 when they started the season ranked No. 3 overall. Tennessee finished that season a disappointing 5-6 and was ineligible for a bowl game.
Flash forward to today, the Volunteers are coming off their biggest win in a long time — perhaps one of the biggest wins in school history — and though we know they won't end up like the 2005 squad, Tennessee still has work left to do this year.
The win against Alabama was massive, but clashes against No. 19 Kentucky and No. 1 Georgia still remain on the schedule — with the game against UGA likely determining the winner of the SEC East.
