The Tennessee Vols have their quarterback situation settled for the next couple of seasons with 2024 four-star quarterback Jake Merklinger and 2025 four-star quarterback George MacIntyre already on the roster and 2026 five-star quarterback commit Faizon Brandon on the way to Rocky Top next year.

(UCLA transfer addition Joey Aguilar will be a one-and-done player at Tennessee as 2025 will be his final season of college eligibility).

Quarterback recruiting, however, never stops. And Tennessee, like most programs around the country, is already taking a look at quarterbacks in the 2027 and 2028 recruiting classes.

A 2028 quarterback that's already receiving a significant amount of hype is Miami Northwestern quarterback Neimann Lawrence, a 15-year-old who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 200 lbs.

The Athletic suggested this week that Lawrence could be "the next big thing" in recruiting.

From The Athletic: “There’s not a lot of guys here in this state that are going to be like him,” said Larry Blustein, a longtime Florida recruiting analyst. “But here’s the truth: There’s not a lot of kids like him in California and Texas either. He’s just a dude.”

Lawrence has already received offers from Miami, Georgia, Oregon, Ohio State, Alabama, and Penn State.

According to The Athletic, Lawrence plans to visit Tennessee this summer, along with trips to Texas, Oregon, and Notre Dame.

It's still incredibly early in the recruiting process for Lawrence, and he doesn't plan to make a decision until before his senior season of high school (which will be the summer of 2027), but it's telling that schools are already making the talented quarterback a priority.

It's too early to know if Tennessee will be a major factor in Lawrence's recruitment. The Vols and Lawrence, though, are at least going to feel each other out and explore whether both sides can be a good fit for each other.
