The Texas A&M Aggies baseball program made a major announcement while the first games of the NCAA tournament regionals were kicking off. It is a choice that will be heavily criticized, but there will also be huge fans of the decision around the roster.

Texas A&M keeping head coach Michael Earley

According to A&M's Director of Athletics Trev Alberts, the Aggies are not m making a coaching change on the diamond. Michael Earley will remain the team's HC, and plenty of folks will be surprised by this news.

"Earlier today I met with Coach Earley to discuss the state of our baseball program. I appreciate Mike's work in taking a holistic view of what changes need to be made so that we have a baseball program that meets our high standards. Baseball success is critically important to Texas A&M. I am confident in Mike's ability to execute the needed change and fully support his vision going forward." -- Trev Alberts

The Aggies were the preseason top-ranked squad in the country, according to multiple big-time ranking platforms. They had tons of talent, both in pitching and hitting. Ultimately, injuries mounted, and the talent did not perform to its peak often enough to get the Aggies to the postseason.

A fun, fiery run in the SEC tournament ended just a bit too early for them to get a nod in the NCAA tournament. Plenty of fans have clamored for Earley to be replaced, but that won't be the outcome this offseason.

Jace Laviolette reacts to the news

Laviolette made an astonishing return during the SEC tournament, and he's expected to be a first-round pick in this year's MLB Draft. Even with that, he is excited that the Aggies are keeping their current coach around.

Expect plenty of reaction from recruits and current players when it comes to this news. We will see how the Aggies can navigate the transfer portal over the next couple of months. Earley will have to get this ship back afloat immediately.
