Texas is riding a wave of momentum right now after an emotional 17-7 win over in-state rival Texas A&M on Saturday.
It was a matchup college football fans have waited 13 years for. For Texas fans, it was worth the wait. In a physical battle in front of a boisterous crowd, the Longhorns dominated the game in the trenches. Texas' defense had its best showing of the season and the score should have been much more lopsided than it showed.
The win moved the Longhorns up one spot to the No. 2 team in the country in the latest AP Top 25 Poll and Texas earned a spot in the SEC Championship against No. 5 Georgia on Dec. 7.
One of the concerning aspects of the Texas-Texas A&M game involved left tackle Kelvin Banks. Texas' star offensive lineman left the game in the first quarter due to an ankle injury.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian was asked about Banks' injury in a media availability on Monday and while he didn't provide much insight, it appears that Banks does not have a serious injury.
"It is going to be a similar process to Quinn (Ewers) to see if he will be good to go for Saturday," Sarkisian said regarding Banks' ankle. The fact that Banks even has a shot to play in the SEC title game should comfort Texas fans. Ewers was able to give it a go the following week after suffering an ankle injury of his own.
Redshirt freshman Trevor Goosby filled in seamlessly against the Aggies and will be in line to start at left tackle if Banks is unable to suit up.
