Over the weekend, one member of the Texas Longhorns offense was arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI) in Austin, Texas.
Freshman offensive tackle Nick Brooks was the guilty party and was arrested at 2:31 a.m. on Sunday, according to a report from the Austin American Statesman.
Brooks, a 6-foot-7, 353-pound tackle from Loganville, Georgia, was one of Texas’ prized recruits in their nation-leading recruiting class. The 18-year-old freshman was booked into jail on Sunday and was released on a personal bond later that evening.
“We are aware of the situation with Nick Brooks, have talked with him, and are gathering information,” Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said about the situation. “We will continue to monitor the legal process and address this situation within the team at the appropriate time.”
Coming out of Grayson High School in the Class of 2025, Brooks was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 238th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 25th-ranked player at his position and the 33rd-ranked player in the state of Georgia.
A talented player in his class, Brooks chose the Longhorns over offers from 31 different programs, including Georgia, Alabama, Michigan, Colorado, Florida, LSU, Iowa State, Nebraska, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, and more.
