Texas Longhorns lose 2 key players to injury during scrimmage

Nobody ever wants to see a player go down, either during a game or in practice. Injuries somehow seem even worse when they happen in the preseason, though, and preseason injuries that impact the whole season? There's nothing worse.

The Texas Longhorns are living that hurt in real-time right now as two players who were expected to play a huge role in 2022 — offensive lineman Junior Angilau and wide receiver Isaiah Neyor — were both lost for the season.

"I hate it for them," head coach Steve Sarkisian said, according to ESPN. "I feel for those guys who both had really good offseasons to get ready for the season. ... For us now, it's next man up. I think we've done a good job in recruiting to ensure that we can do that. We've got plenty of time. We'll be OK."

Sarkisian and the Longhorns have been cleaning up on the recruiting trail as of late, so one would imagine that Texas has the depth and talent to weather these two injuries. Admittedly, that's an optimistic take on what has been an absolutely brutal night for the Longhorns, though.

Angilau was entering this season as the team's most experienced lineman, having played and started in 34 games throughout his career -- including starts in all 12 games in 2021 for Texas.

Neyor was new to the Longhorns as a transfer from Wyoming, but he was coming off a season that saw him notch 878 yards and 12 touchdowns and he was expected to be a big part of the offensive attack for Texas.

Both Angilau and Neyor suffered ACL injuries in a scrimmage that saw three other Longhorns get knicked up, per Sarkisian.
