Texas Longhorns Make History Before the SEC Championship
Aaron Meullion-USA TODAY Sports

Even during Texas' darkest days over the past decade, the Longhorns have never had issues with attracting top talent.

However, the one thing that evaded them, aside from success on the field up until this past year, was the top recruiting class in the country. Alabama or Georgia routinely held the No. 1 class in the country in years past, but that changed in the past couple of days.

With the early signing period taking place from Dec. 4-6, there was a belief around the country that Texas could come close to securing the top spot for the 2025 class. However, after retaining a couple of recruits who were possibly eyeing a flip and making a surprise addition in five-star Justus Terry, the Longhorns clinched the No. 1 spot in the 247Sports recruiting rankings.

A ranking in recruiting that they have never held in the 247Sports era, which dates back to 2010.

The class is headlined by four five-star recruits, two of which rank as the No. 1 player at their respective position. Five-star safety Jonah Williams, who will also be playing baseball for Texas is the highest-ranked recruit in the class, and ranks No. 8 all-time in terms of all-time recruits at Texas.

The class features one quarterback commit in four-star KJ Lacey who is one of the most decorated players in Alabama history. Joining him are three elite receivers and the No. 1 athlete in Michael Terry III, who will be making plays for the offense for years to come.

Defensively, the Longhorns will be bolstering the defensive line in a big way. Joining Terry are four other defensive linemen, all of which are ranked within the top 250 players in the country.

If this class lives up its billing, the Longhorns could end up becoming the next college football dynasty if all goes well. Needless to say, Steve Sarkisian has Texas firing on all cylinders.

The Longhorns will look to win the SEC title on Saturday in what is the program's first season in the conference, and a year after they won their first Big 12 title since 2009.
