Texas Loses Nation's No. 6 Recruit to In-State Rival

There were a number of high-powered programs that were fighting for the commitment of offensive tackle Felix Ojo out of Mansfield, Texas.

It was certainly a big decision, as he was choosing between the Texas Longhorns, the Michigan Wolverines, the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Florida Gators, all of whom he'd had official visits with.

For a while, things were looking good for the Longhorns to come out on top, and back on March 24, On3's Justin Wells even logged an expert prediction at a 60% confidence level for Ojo to land with Texas.

However, in an interesting move, Ojo didn't pick any of his final options, instead going with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, per Hayes Fawcett, to play under head coach Joey McGuire.

What makes this outcome even more surprising is the fact that in an article posted on June 23, from On3's Steve Wiltfong, Ojo had stated that Ohio State and Texas were the "main two" left standing.

Either way, though, there's no doubt that the Red Raiders are pleased, as On3 Industry Rankings lists him as the No. 3 offensive tackle, the No. 1 player in Texas and the No. 6 player in the nation.

He becomes the only five-star prospect in Texas Tech's rising 2026 recruiting class, which now features 18 commitments, ranking No. 1 in the Big 12 and No. 22 in the nation

Luckily for the Longhorns, the sting of this loss is lessened by the fact that they have already landed several offensive line recruits, including four-star Max Wright and three-star Nicolas Robertson.
