Texas Loses Top 2026 WR Recruitment Battle To Clemson

The Texas Longhorns fell short of securing Naeem Burroughs' commitment on Saturday.

On3's Hayes Fawcett reported that Burroughs decided to commit to the Clemson Tigers instead. Burroughs chose Clemson over the Florida Gators, USC Trojans and Texas.

Various schools had shown interest in Burroughs, as he held offers from the Texas A&M Aggies, Ohio State Buckeyes, Penn State Nittany Lions, Tennessee Volunteers, Florida State Seminoles, Wisconsin Badgers, Alabama Crimson Tide, and others.

Burroughs is a Florida native from Jacksonville and attends The Bolles School.

On3 Sports listed the recruit at 5-foot-11, 160 pounds. After the commitment, he firmly shut down his recruitment.

"I'm shutting it down," Burroughs said.

Burroughs is a four-star prospect and the No. 2 receiver in his class, per On3 Sports. He is also the No. 4 recruit from the state of Florida.

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine gave Texas a 1.7% chance to land Burroughs. Florida had the best odds, at 87.7%, and Clemson was given a 2.1% chance.

Florida State and USC were also in the running but had odds lower than 3%.

There is still a chance for the Longhorns to convince Burroughs to flip from Clemson. Texas has an official visit with Burroughs scheduled for June 20, his first with the program.

The receiver would have joined a solid recruiting class at Texas if he had gone with the Longhorns. Head coach Steve Sarkisian has five-star quarterback Dia Bell, four-star receiver Chris Stewart and four-star offensive tackle Max Wright in his 2026 recruiting class.

Burroughs caught 33 passes for 829 receiving yards as a junior in 2024. He played in the 2025 Under Armour All-America Game, with 93 receiving yards on three receptions.
