The Texas Longhorns are one of eight teams remaining in the College Football Playoff, set for a quarterfinal matchup against the Arizona State Sun Devils on Wednesday.
While the Longhorns are preparing for the quarterfinals, they have also been navigating the first window of the transfer portal, which opened on Dec. 9.
Texas has not made much noise in terms of incoming transfers, but a couple of intriguing names have packed their bags and transferred away from the program.
One of these players is former five-star prospect Johntay Cook. On Saturday, Cook announced his commitment to the Washington Huskies.
After transferring to the Big Ten program, Cook's former teammate, Arch Manning, posted his reaction.
Manning commented the ice-cold face emoji, which is often used to describe winter weather or a cold sports move. The Texas quarterback is rarely seen interacting with social media pages, making his reaction to Cook's commitment notable.
During the 2024 college football season, Cook "left" the Longhorns program in a move that Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian described as "mutual."
"Obviously, we’ve had some roster movement today with Johntay Cook moving on," Sarkisian said, per Wescott Eberts at Burnt Orange Nation. "We have nothing but respect for he and his family. Wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors."
Cook finished the 2024 college football season with two touchdowns and 137 yards on eight receptions in four games. During his two-year Texas career, Cook recorded two touchdowns and 273 yards on 16 receptions.
The Texas native originally committed to Texas as a five-star prospect, ranked as the No. 4 wide receiver and the No. 31 overall player in the nation, per 247Sports.
