Texas Tech just scored a major recruiting win by landing four-star running back Ashton “Ace” Rowden from New Boston, Texas.
The 5-foot-11, 195-pound back burst onto the national radar after rushing for 1,337 yards and 14 touchdowns in just nine games last season.
Rated as a four-star by both Rivals and 247Sports, Rowden chose the Red Raiders over programs like TCU, Houston, and Arkansas after his official visit to Lubbock on June 5. Rowden boasts 22 Division I offers and emphasized that Texas Tech was at the top of his list.
The Red Raiders first offered Rowden in January and hosted his second official visit following a stop at TCU on May 30. That timing showed how seriously Texas Tech has pursued him this spring. Jarrett Ramirez of RedRaiderSports noted that Rowden’s visit was a key moment in swaying his commitment, as he had already taken in spring practice and met the coaching staff.
Rowden brings explosive playmaking and home-state appeal to Texas Tech’s crowded backfield. His combination of speed, vision, and toughness fits perfectly with head coach Joey McGuire’s physical offensive identity. With a national top-25 class already in place, Rowden adds another dynamic weapon to a roster loaded with momentum.
Rowden’s commitment continues a strong summer on the recruiting trail for Joey McGuire and his staff. Locking down one of the top backs in Texas sends a message that Tech can win key battles within the state.
With Rowden now on board, the Red Raiders add both firepower to the offense and credibility to their 2026 class. The focus now shifts to development, to maintain that momentum into the fall.
