Texas linebacker Trey Moore has been named as a finalist for the Campbell Trophy. The National Football Foundation announced the news on Wednesday that Moore is one of 16 finalists for the trophy.
The William V. Campbell Trophy is an award that recognizes one athlete as the best in the country for his football performance, leadership and academic success. The winner of the award will be announced on Dec. 9.
Moore is a senior, but he first arrived in Austin last year. After transferring from UTSA, where he acquired 102 total tackles, 22 sacks, three forced fumbles and an interception, he entered the transfer portal and committed to the Longhorns.
In his first season in Austin, he recorded 36 total tackles, five and a half sacks and three forced fumbles. Through seven games this season, he’s recorded 19 total tackles and two sacks. He’s proven himself as a role player for the Texas defense.
Moore has also been successful in the classroom, as he holds a 3.64 GPA and will graduate in December with a Physical Culture and Sports degree. He was also named as Texas’ Spring Academic MVP earlier this year.
As Texas enters Week 9, the Longhorns will face the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday. After that, Texas still has to face three more top-10 teams. Moore will look to finish the season out successfully, both on the field and in the classroom.
