On Saturday, Oklahoma and Texas will square off in the Cotton Bowl for the latest entry in the Red River Rivalry. The rivalry is one of the most historic in all of college football. Oklahoma and Texas have played annually since 1929.
It’s been a back-and-forth affair between the two teams, but Texas currently boasts a 64-51-5 all-time record against the Sooners. The Longhorns dominated Oklahoma in a 34-3 blowout when the two teams met last season.
Oddsmakers don’t expect the game to be so lopsided this year. According to BetMGM, Texas is a 3-point favorite over Oklahoma. Additionally, the over/under for the game is set at 42.5 points.

Unlike Texas, Oklahoma is entering this year’s Red River Rivalry game unscathed. Most recently, Oklahoma handily defeated Kent State. However, the Sooners have several other more notable victories.
In Week 2, Oklahoma marched into Ann Arbor and defeated Michigan. The Sooners’ defense was lockdown in the win, holding Michigan to just 288 total yards of offense.
In Week 4, Oklahoma added another stellar win to its résumé with a 24-17 triumph over Auburn. In the victory, Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer completed 24-of-his-36 pass attempts for 271 yards and a touchdown, without throwing an interception.
While Mateer finished the game, he suffered a hand injury early in the contest. He had to undergo surgery in late September on his hand. The odds for the Red River showdown could change as Mateer’s game status becomes more clear.
Texas also has a quarterback who will draw plenty of attention. After a couple of lackluster performances early in the season, many fans disregarded the hype around Arch Manning.
However, Manning will have a chance to earn back college football fans’ respect on Saturday against the Sooners. Of course, one player can’t take down a team as talented as Oklahoma.
Players like safety Michael Taaffe and Anthony Hill Jr. on the other side of the ball will be key to Texas’ success. If the Longhorns’ defense can’t find stops, it doesn’t matter how well Manning plays.
Fans won’t have to wait much longer to see the arch-rivals clash. Oklahoma and Texas will face off on Saturday at 2:30 CT. The game will air live on ABC.
