The 2022 Texas A&M football recruiting class went from historic to pathetic in just a couple of years

Thinking back to the 2022 recruiting class, some were calling the Texas A&M group the top class in recent memory. They ranked as the No. 1 class on the 247Sports Composite ranking, but most understood how flawed that group was, even when they had signed. It was a group of outstanding defensive lineman and wide receivers, but fell short on several positions.

There was little question about the overall talent in that group, but creating a complete roster was something that wasn’t talked about nearly enough. With how much the Aggies had struggled down the stretch of the Jimbo Fisher Era, it’s safe to call that 2022 class one of the biggest busts in recruiting history.

When you dive into the fortune of that group, there was almost no impact for the Texas A&M program. Some tremendous players came out of the class, but the problem is, almost none of them accomplished much in College Station. It has become a failure of epic proportions.

For the 2025 NFL Draft class, you are going to see several of those players selected in April. Between Walter Nolen, Shemar Stewart, and LT Overton, you could be looking at three potential first round selections. The issue is that only Stewart currently suits up for the Aggies out of the three.

With the recent decisions to enter the portal for quarterback Conner Weigman, defensive tackle Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy, and defensive end Enai White, they now join Nolen (Ole Miss), Overton (Alabama), defensive end Anthony Lucas (USC), wide receivers Evan Stewart (Oregon) and Chris Marshall (Boise State), defensive backs Denver Harris (LSU/UTSA) and Smoke Bouie (Georgia), and offensive tackle PJ Williams (SMU) as players who have transferred from that class.

That is a talented group of players, who mostly landed at other big time programs. The 2022 recruiting class perfectly illustrates the tenure under Coach Fisher. There was a lot of talent, a ton of promise, and not many positive results.
