The Big 12 is another conference welcoming newcomers as Colorado, Utah, Arizona and Arizona State join the league. They are relatively set with their quarterbacks and have many good ones. Let's see what quarterback competitions are going on in the new-look conference this Spring.

BYU - Jake Retzlaff, Gerry Bohanon, Treyson Bourguet, and Cade Finnegan

Jake Retzlaff played four games last season, going 63 of 125 for 648 yards and three touchdowns. He did also have three interceptions as well. That isn't good enough to be names starter again, so Retzlaff will be involved in a wide-open QB battle this Spring. His challengers will be Gerry Bohanon, who has played previously at both Baylor and South Florida. Treyson Bourguet is coming over from Western Michigan and then Cade Finnegan is a transfer from Boise State with very minimal experience.

Retzlaff and Bohanon have the advantage as of now, as they are splitting first team reps. BYU had their first losing season since 2017 last year as they went 5-7. They also missed a bowl game for only the second time since 2004. The Cougars have some work to do, and finding their starting quarterback should be a top priority.

Cincinatti - Brendan Sorsby & Brady Lichtenberg

Brendan Sorsby find himself at Cincy after coming over from Indiana. He played in ten games in 2023 and had a 15 to 5 touchdown to interception ratio with 1,587 yards. He is in a battle with Junior Brady Lichtenberg . He has not played much, only with 34 passing attempts in 2023 after zero in 2022. He completed 19 of those attempts for 252 yards and 2 touchdowns, also throwing an interception.

Apparently, this is a tight battle, but one that Sorsby looks to be coming out on top in. The Bearcats struggled in their first season in the Big 12, going 3-9. We'll see if either of these guys can provide the spark they need to get back to their winning ways under second year head coach Scott Satterfield
