The great Marshall Faulk to join Colorado’s coaching staff

Marshall Faulk, the NFL and college football Hall of Famer, is the new running backs coach for the Colorado Buffaloes.

Head coach Deion Sanders, looking to improve a rushing attack that ranked dead last in the country, hired one of the best to ever play the game. The Buffaloes averaged a paltry 65 yards per game on the ground in 2024.

Faulk is yet another member of the NFL Hall of Fame to be hired by Coach Prime, joining Warren Sapp, who is the senior quality control analyst for the defense.

As a freshman at San Diego State in the early 1990s, Faulk was third on the depth chart. But two things happened in a game in Week 2 that changed his career. The starter at running back suffered an injury and was taken to the sideline. The backup could not find his helmet.

Faulk entered that game and took over the position for the next three seasons. He later rushed for 4,589 career yards, 57 touchdowns and an average of six yards per carry with the Aztecs.

As the number two overall pick in the 1994 NFL Draft, Faulk left his mark on the game and turned in a stellar pro career:

  • 12,279 career rushing yards
  • 100 touchdowns
  • Three-time NFL MVP
  • Three-time All-Pro
  • Super Bowl Champion (XXXIV)

Last season, Colorado did not score a rushing touchdown until Week 4 against Baylor. As a team, the Buffaloes rushed for 847 yards and just 15 touchdowns. Colorado returns its top three rushers in 2025. However, the leading rusher on the team posted only 384 yards and four touchdowns.

Inexplicably, Sanders did not secure the services of any productive running backs via the transfer portal.
