With the 216th pick in the NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers selected TCU linebacker Dee Winters.
Winters joins a 49er defense that has been among the most dominant units over the last few seasons. He joins current 49er Fred Warner, a two-time All-Pro linebacker, and Steve Wilks, the current offensive coordinator in San Francisco who previously spent time in Carolina as the defensive coordinator and later the interim head coach.
Winters was arguably TCU’s best player in its semi-final victory over Michigan. He finished the game with seven tackles, three tackles for loss, and an interception that he returned for a touchdown. Winters will likely start his NFL career as a special teams player who will have an opportunity to become a rotational linebacker.
Winters is the seventh Horned Frog selected in this year’s draft. He joins Quentin Johnston, Steve Avila, Dylan Horton, Kendre Miller, Derius Davis, and Trevius Hodges-Tomlinson.
