The Transfer Portal is already starting to fill up, and Notre Dame should have close eyes on one player in particular

In the modern world of College Football, the transfer portal has become a necessary evil for some programs. While high school recruiting and development is still king, the portal is a necessity. You need both in this day and age to supplement, and continuously find talent.

Over the next couple of weeks, we are going to see the transfer portal continuously flooded with talented football players. It appears that Notre Dame will be heavily involved in the portal, with defensive tackle and wide receiver being the two biggest areas of need. For the latter, the Irish need to find an alpha pass catcher to help urge this younger corp along.

With Jaden Greathouse and Jordan Faison set to return, on top of youngsters like KK Smith, Cam Williams, Micah Gilbert, and Logan Saldate hopefully emerging, numbers aren’t needed in this portal cycle. Notre Dame instead needs to find one substantial difference maker to be the lead target potentially.

The last couple of days, we have seen several talented wide receivers enter the portal already. There may not be a more intriguing one than NC State star Kevin Concepcion, who has been one of the more productive pass catchers in the ACC the last two seasons. During that time, he has hauled in 124 receptions for 1,299 yards and 16 touchdowns, while also rushing for 356 yards and another two scores.

Concepcion is also just a second year player, and has two years of eligibility remaining. That makes him a very attractive option for a prospective team, but does make things a little more difficult for a school like Notre Dame who has such high academic standards. Still, that leaves no reason that the Fighting Irish shouldn’t at least inquire and see if they can make the fit make sense.

As a player, Concepcion is exactly the type of wide receiver they need. He is a talent that can make a ton of plays out of the slot, and is athletic enough to play outside as well. Perhaps the biggest area of impact Notre Dame needs more of is the ability after the catch, and Concepcion brings a lot in that area.

It’s quite possible that the fit doesn’t make sense for a variety of reasons, but on paper, Concepcion is the type of player that the Irish need. There’s no inside sourcing to suggest they will go hard after him but if they can make the fit make sense, they should. Concepcion is the dynamic space player that Notre Dame needs desperately.
