The ‘underrated’ advantage Alabama QB Ty Simpson feels he will have vs. Florida State

Alabama football’s offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb will be making calls from the booth Saturday when the Crimson Tide take on Florida State.

Grubb will be joined by a couple of analysts in the booth. Alabama’s co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Nick Sheridan will be on the sideline with the Tide’s offense. The Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback Ty Simpson feels this is an ‘underrated’ advantage that could benefit the Alabama offense against the Seminoles.

“That’s an underrated thing that we have, certainly,” Simpson said. “Having coach Grubb and Mitch Dahlen and Tyler Hughes in the box and then having coach Sheridan and then other guys on the sideline, it’s a quarterback’s dream to have those types of resources and just understanding like what are they doing and talking through it all because the first game’s always about adjustments. They got a new coordinator, new defense, a lot of new guys, and we wanna make sure we can make adjustments all throughout the game. And being able to have all those eyes on everybody is just something that I really appreciate.”

Simpson is excited for his first start as a college quarterback, and he has high expectations for himself and the Crimson Tide’s offense.

“We can be as good as we want to be,” Simpson told reporters Tuesday after practice. “It all just depends on just doing our assignments and making sure that we control our box, and keep the main thing, the main thing. You know, coach Saban used to say that all the time, to not look at the scoreboard and just make sure that ‘Hey we need to do whatever the task at hand is and not worry about everything else, and not be outcome-oriented. And I just think if we just focus on the main thing and the right things, it’ll take us as far as we need to go.”
