The Vols are probably going to lose one of the best recruits in the state of Tennessee to Ohio State

Those pesky Ohio State Buckeyes just won't stop being a thorn in the side of the Tennessee Vols.

First there was the Vols' blowout loss to Ohio State in Columbus in the first round of the College Football Playoff last December. Now it appears that the Buckeyes could swipe one of the best recruits in the state of Tennessee.

Rivals.com national recruiting director Adam Gorney noted this week that there's chatter the Buckeyes have a "big edge" for 2027 four-star running back David Gabriel Georges.

"There is a lot of chatter that Ohio State has a big edge for the 2027 four-star running back from Chattanooga (Tenn.) Baylor School but Georgia, Oregon and Tennessee are the other front-runners," wrote Gorney

Gorney also pointed out that Georges recently had a great visit to Georgia, but it still feels like the Buckeyes are the leaders in this recruiting battle.

"During a weekend visit to Georgia, Georges loved how he felt like a top priority, but the Buckeyes might have the edge right now," noted Gorney.

Georges, 6-foot/200 lbs from Chattanooga, TN (originally from Quebec), is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 3 running back in the nation and the No. 2 player in the state of Tennessee. He's also rated as the No. 44 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class.

The talented running back took an unofficial visit to Tennessee earlier this spring.

Georges is originally from Canada, so it's not like he grew up rooting for the Vols. If Tennessee loses this battle to Ohio State, it won't be like when they lost Tee Higgins and Amari Rodgers to Clemson or Vonn Bell to Ohio State. But I'm not sure that will make it sting any less. Watching a player excel in high school in Chattanooga and then head to Columbus to play college football would undoubtedly be painful for Vols fans.
