There’s a Big Ten battle for the services of former Notre Dame OL Rocco Spindler, and one suitor won’t make Irish fans happy

Notre Dame football had seven talented players enter the transfer portal following their national championship loss to Ohio State. One of them was offensive guard Rocco Spindler, who started a ton of football games over the last several years.

Once Spindler chose to enter the portal, there was a ton of interest immediately. After hearing from a long list of prominent programs, it appears that several have begun to separate themselves. From a report from On3 transfer portal reporter Pete Nakos, it could come down to a battle between Michigan, Nebraska, and Indiana.

Over the last two seasons, Spindler started 23 games for the Fighting Irish. At 6-5 and 325 pounds, his combination of experience and physicality is a valuable commodity for a prospective team. That’s why so many prominent programs have shown such high interest.

Spindler was once a very well regarded recruit coming out of Clarkston (Mich.) High School. He was rated as the No. 60 overall player and No. 3 interior offensive lineman in the 2021 recruiting class according to 247Sports Composite ranking. They also had Spindler pegged as the No. 3 player in the state of Michigan.

When Spindler was coming out of high school, he had a long list of impressive suitors. Some of his offers included the Fighting Irish, Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, LSU, Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee, Florida, Nebraska, Michigan State, Kentucky, Northwestern, Minnesota, Arizona State, and Pittsburgh among several others.
