Three ideal NFL Draft landing spots for TE Michael Mayer

ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper indeed has Mayer eighth overall in his rankings for next year's class. 

In his junior campaign with the Fighting Irish, Mayer posted 809 yards on 67 receptions for nine touchdowns. He averaged 12.1 yards a catch.

In its player profile, The Draft Network says that Mayer "has absorbed the nickname 'Baby Gronk' for parallels in play style to future HOF tight end Rob Gronkowski." 

With this much hype, Mayer is expected to go in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. 

Here are three teams that could best use Mayer's skill set. 

Jacksonville Jaguars 

The Jaguars might not re-sign tight end Evan Engram in free agency. Budding quarterback Trevor Lawrence will continue to need a reliable tight end in the passing game if Engram leaves. 

Mayer would give the team a young building block to pair with Lawrence for the foreseeable future. The Jags are slated to pick seventh overall, per Tankathon, and that might be Mayer's ceiling right now. 

Los Angeles Chargers 

The Chargers have never properly replaced tight end Hunter Henry. While Gerald Everett is a dependable veteran, Mayer could help take the Los Angeles offense to another level. 

Combined with wideouts Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, Mayer would give quarterback Justin Herbert a lethal trio in a division where you have to pass to survive. Mayer would thrive with a quarterback like Herbert throwing him the ball. 

New York Giants 

Giants head coach Brian Daboll knows how impactful a good tight end can be to an offense. He helped develop tight end Dawson Knox in Buffalo while he was the Bills offensive coordinator.

Whether it's Daniel Jones or somebody else, the next quarterback for New York is going to need a tight end to throw to, and Mayer absolutely fits the bill. With running back Saquon Barkley possibly leaving in free agency, the Giants will need to restock the offensive arsenal. Mayer would help a lot.
