Three Offensive Stars to Watch for TCU in 2025
Raymond Carlin III-Imagn Images

The TCU Horned Frogs offense had one of the best offenses in the Big 12 as it turned things around and reached a bowl game in 2024.

Here was how the TCU offense ranked last season in FBS:

Points per game: 33.5 (No. 25)

Rushing yards per game: 113.9 (No. 112)

Passing yards per game: 312.9 (No. 8)

Total yards per game: 426.8 (Tied for No. 31).

With holdover offensive coordinator Kendal Briles at the controls, the Horned Frogs figure to be a high-flying offense again in 2025.

Here are three offensive players to keep an eye on for the TCU Horned Frogs.

QB Josh Hoover

Hoover is one of several returning quarterbacks in the Big 12 who had quality seasons, but his might have been the best overall, especially in the passing game.

He broke TCU’s single-season passing record with 3,949 yards. He completed 66.5 percent of his passes for the third-best single-season completion percentage. He threw 27 touchdowns, which tied program legend Andy Dalton for fourth in a single season. He also led the Big 12 and was fifth in the country, with 61 completions of at least 20 yards.

So, what on earth does he do for an encore? Well, first, he must get used to a fairly new group of receivers and work behind the left side of an offensive line that must be remade in the wake of graduation and transfer. But that’s just college football these days.

Hoover must maintain that level of play in 2025 if the Horned Frogs expect to contend in the Big 12. If he can exceed it, well, TCU could do some special things.

WR Eric McAllister

Jack Bech and Savion Williams are out the door. So, who’s gonna fill their shoes? The line starts behind McAllister, who was part of the offense a year ago.

In fact, he was a key part of the offense. He finished with 762 yards receiving, along with 39 receptions. Of those 39 receptions, 35 were for first downs. When Hoover needed to move the chains, McAlister was the receiver he went to most of the time.

He also ranked 10th in FBS and sixth among power conference wide receivers with 19.5 yards per catch. He figures to be TCU’s deep threat again this season.

C Coltin Deery

TCU was not much of a running team a year ago. With new wide receivers and new running backs, the Horned Frogs need to get back to running the ball more effectively in 2025.

Deery is the type of player who can help that cause. He transferred to TCU from Maryland before the 2023 season and he’s started 20 straight games once he got a full-time job. Up until the season finale last year his first 19 starts had been at left guard. Now, he’s projected by Lindy’s to be the starting center.

Briles may call the plays, and Hoover may yell “hut,” but it’s Deery who will make the line calls and get the rest of his linemen in their places. With him at center, the Horned Frogs hope to improve on last year’s running game — or at least make it effective enough so defenses can’t tee off on Hoover.
