Tim Tebow Has Warning For Texas Amid Arch Manning Injury

The Texas Longhorns face a can't-lose game against No. 9 Vanderbilt this Saturday but might be going into the game at less than full health as starting QB Arch Manning deals with a concussion.

Appearing on The Paul Finebaum Show, Florida football legend Tim Tebow warned that Manning and the Longhorns shouldn't try to rush him back from the injury due to how serious a concussion can be. He pointed out that when it comes to concussions it's often best to "protect the player against him," so if Manning says he wants to go but the doctor advises against it, the Longhorns should listen to the doctor over Manning.

“Well, I think you’re talking about Arch, who’s a really tough player; he’s a physical player. I’m sure that he wants to play, but Roman says this a lot and I think it’s really important, especially with any form of concussion, brain injury – sometimes, you’ve got to protect the player against himself,” Tebow said, via On3. “And, if he’s ready to go, then absolutely, let him go. But, if he’s not and he wants to, then I would need someone to protect me against myself, and do what’s best for the player first rather than what is best just to get another W.

“This isn’t the same as John Mateer and a hand injury. It’s different. You’re talking about the brain, and we’re learning more and more every single year, and just how important it is to not have that second concussion, not having that big hit after it and letting him have the time to recover. You know, I know he’s super tough and he wants to play for this team. But, if it’s close, I think you’ve got to err on the side of protecting the kid.”

Caldwell Time in Texas?

If Arch Manning isn't healthy enough to play, the reins will likely go to Texas backup QB Matthew Caldwell, who had the game-winning touchdown pass against Mississippi State last week after Manning went down with his injury.

Texas fans have been clamoring for Caldwell since before Manning even got hurt due to how pedestrian Manning has looked for large swaths of the season.

Prior to joining Texas this year, Caldwell played in 10 games at Troy in 2024, completing 63.2-percent of his passes for 1,608 yards and 13 TDs with eight interceptions. Since joining the Longhorns he's appeared mostly in spot duty, going 8/11 for 85 yards and the aforementioned touchdown.

Will Arch Manning be healthy enough to play against the Commodores tomorrow?
