Tipster in the Sign-Stealing Scandal Was from Michigan, Not Ohio State

Michigan is facing 11 allegations, with six of them being Level 1. The NCAA is likely in for a long fight in this case. Yahoo Sports states “…the university refutes many of the alleged rules violations and accuses the NCAA of “grossly overreaching” and “wildly overcharging” the program without credible evidence that other staff members knew of Stalions’ illegal in-person scouting system.”

Many talking heads in the media had suggested that the tipster in this case was someone from Ohio State, which turns out to be not true. “According to the document, the tipster derived from Michigan’s own campus. The unnamed source, which the NCAA has not disclosed, appears to have worked at the school, at least at one point. Michigan believes the confidential leaker was used by the NCAA to produce at least some of the charges in the notice of allegations, something in which it expresses “concern.”

It is no surprise that Michigan is fighting these allegations. The recent history of the NCAA in courtrooms bodes well for the Wolverines to receive nothing more than a slap on the wrist. It is a little surprising that the “rat” came from within.
