The most shocking development of the NFL Draft through the first three rounds has been the absence of Colorado Buffaloes star quarterback Shedeur Sanders from the board. Just a month ago, Sanders was projected as a potential top-five pick — and widely considered the No. 2 quarterback in the class behind Cam Ward.
Yet, as five quarterbacks have already been selected, Sanders remains undrafted heading into Round 4, which kicks off Saturday at noon. Now, his eventual landing spot is a complete mystery.
One team that was heavily linked to Sanders throughout the draft process was the Las Vegas Raiders. While they still have a chance to pick him on Day 3, they've already passed on him multiple times — raising eyebrows considering their current quarterback room consists of Geno Smith, Aidan O'Connell, and Carter Bradley.
Adding to the intrigue is the fact that Raiders minority owner Tom Brady has a personal connection with Sanders. The two trained together back in 2020, and following Colorado’s upset win over TCU in Sanders' first game as a Buffalo, Brady texted him a simple but powerful message: "Don’t be satisfied."
Yet, three rounds into the draft, Brady and the Raiders have passed on Sanders, as the Colorado star — and son of Deion Sanders — endures one of the most shocking draft slides in recent memory, sparking growing backlash toward Brady.
"It is now pretty clear Tom Brady - who mentored Shedeur - told the Raiders NOT to take Shedeur. Duly noted," Skip Bayless posted.
He later added, "HOW COULD TOM BRADY'S TEAM PASS ON SHEDEUR AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN??? BRADY REPORTEDLY COACHED SHEDEUR. BRADY REPORTEDLY WAS INVOLVED IN RAIDERS DRAFT DECISION-MAKING."

Other NFL fans reacted to Raiders continuously passing on Sanders through the first three rounds:
"Either owners orders or no one wants that kind of superstar to take over their franchise," A fan said.
"Tom Brady is a minority owner of the Raiders. He has a personal relationship with with Shedeur Sanders. He just passed on him AGAIN," Another fan posted.
"Tom Brady mentored a QB and passed on that QB 5 times already," someone else added.
One more fan commented, "Wasn’t Tom Brady Shedeur Sanders’s mentor????? You telling me his big homie even passing on him?!!!?"
At the NFL combine, Sanders spoke glowingly about his relationship with Brady, calling him a mentor and a lasting influence.
“He took me in his truck to this high school field,” Sanders recalled. “From then on, he was just telling me knowledge. I filmed everything, recorded everything — so now, sometimes I go back and listen to the things he said. And it registers. Everything he said back then applies now. That’s why I’m thankful for him.”

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg has released his two‑year future power rankings of all 68 Power-4 conference teams, and West Virginia earned a spot at No. 66—the lowest‑ranked Big 12 program, ahead of only Stanford and Purdue. While programs like Arizona State, Iowa State, and Kansas State are trending upward nationally, the Mountaineers appear stuck in transition, at least according to Adam Rittenberg. The justification for West Virginia’s ranking was based on six different categories: returning quarterback, likelihood of a multi-year quarterback, offensive and defensive line outlook, roster management, star power, and coaching staff. Unfortunately, West Virginia doesn’t fit the bill for any positives in Rittenberg’s eyes. The three main aspects of the ranking boiled down to not having a returning quarterback, an overall lack of star power, and the program facing a portal-driven rebuild. The Mountaineers lost Garrett Greene after a long career with the program, leaving Nicco Marchiol as the main man under center. Other areas away from the quarterback position are just as unpredictable, but one bright spot the team can capitalize on is in the backfield with veteran Jahiem White. Rich Rodriguez returns to Morgantown with a track record of offensive innovation, but he does inherit a program dealing with some adversity after the Neal Brown era. With little stability at quarterback and an unproven supporting cast, West Virginia enters the 2025 season with more questions than answers. Rittenberg’s power rankings paint a stark picture: West Virginia is the Big 12’s most vulnerable link, with roster volatility and quarterback uncertainty holding them back. But it’s also a blank slate—with new blood, rebuilds can surprise. If WVU can rally around a quarterback, retain key contributors, and muscle through early instability, a move upward by 2026 is still within reach.
As the NHL offseason winds down, there are still a few quality players out on the free agent market. Teams have been finalizing their rosters for the new season, but there can always be room to add. One of the better names available is center Jack Roslovic, who played with the Carolina Hurricanes last season. Roslovic could bring real depth and scoring to any team, and it's a little strange why he remains unsigned at this point. The veteran has drawn interest from multiple teams around the NHL, with the Toronto Maple Leafs being one of the most talked-about. But NHL insider Frank Seravalli has now thrown another name into the hat: the Vancouver Canucks. Vancoyver has been busy this offseason putting its roster together, and it could use more depth across the board. Bringing back star Brock Boeser came as a surprise to many people around the league, but the Canucks want to go after a title. The team just barely missed the postseason last year, and the front office has been trying to bring more talent to the team. Adding a player like Roslovic to the mix could help the squad become even more dynamic out on the ice. Last season with the Hurricanes, Roslovic scored 22 goals and 17 assists on the year. His abilities along the lines for the Canucks could help this squad return to the postseason, and he can be a dangerous presence on the ice. It remains to be seen what Roslovic will do, but the Canucks could be an intriguing option. Roslovic is arguably the best free agent left on the market, so he will have some power in how things go down.
The Kansas City Chiefs appeared to receive an early gift from the NFL regarding wide receiver Rashee Rice's looming suspension. The third-year receiver is set to have a disciplinary hearing on Sept. 30 after he pleaded guilty to collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of probation. The timing of Rice's hearing is curious because he pleaded guilty to his charges on the same day Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge connected to his arrest for alleged DUI. The league has already suspended Addison for the first three games of the upcoming season. Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, a league source told him that the NFL doesn't typically delay hearings as it has in the case of Rice, preferring to finalize a punishment before Week 1. “Maybe I’m a conspiracy theorist, but this is odd," said the unnamed source, via Florio. “You hardly ever see players get suspended in season unless they did something in season like a drug test or something.” The suspicion from the source and Florio is that the league is keeping Rice available for marquee matchups in the early season. The Chiefs begin their season in Sao Paulo, Brazil, playing the Los Angeles Chargers. Kansas City then plays the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants ("Sunday Night Football") and Baltimore Ravens. Florio suggested that with a hearing date of Sept. 30, Rice would likely start any suspension the Chiefs' Week 5 contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars on "Monday Night Football." "At a time when many think the league favors the Chiefs, situations like this will not become evidence to the contrary," Florio said. While the early slate of games is impressive for the Chiefs, their schedule is jam-packed with heavyweight matchups. The next four games after Week 5 include the Detroit Lions ("Sunday Night Football"), Las Vegas Raiders, Washington Commanders ("Monday Night Football" and Buffalo Bills. While the league has some explaining to do as to why it chose Sept. 30 as the date, it's hard to see why the Chiefs would have an advantage by losing Rice for those games.
The Pittsburgh Steelers hosted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a joint practice at Acrisure Stadium on Thursday before the two teams clash on Saturday in Week 2 of the preseason. Media members could not report anything during practice, but it seems like the Steelers struggled a bit on the defensive side of the ball. This isn't the end of the world as the Buccaneers have a very good offense stocked with star-power, but fans would probably like to hear about a better performance considering all of the changes that happened on that side of the football during the 2025 offseason. After practice ended on Thursday, reports began to surface about what went down at Acrisure Stadium. While the Steelers found great success in their seven shots drill, it seems like the Buccaneers did not struggle much to throw the football during the two-minute drill, which is a bit concerning considering the additions of Jalen Ramsey and Darius Slay into the secondary. Tampa Bay's Mike Evans seemed to have himself a day, which is not much of a surprise considering his status as one of the best wide receivers in the league. However, the Steelers did reportedly let rookie Emeka Egbuka get the best of them on multiple occasions. Tampa Bay is still missing wide receiver Chris Godwin, but that didn't seem to matter. The Buccaneers wide receivers were still able to manipulate Pittsburgh's secondary apparently and had a lot of success, which means there is a lot for the defense to learn from the joint practice. It is important to note that practice reports aren't always accurate, and there could have been instances where the pass rush would have gotten to Baker Mayfield for a sack. Mayfield has turned into one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL, and it sounds like he got the best of the Steelers' defense during the joint practice. This isn't exactly a game simulation, but it will be interesting to see if the defense still has issues by the time the regular season rolls around. The unit is the highest-paid defense in the NFL for the fourth season in a row, and the fan base has grown tired of the constant disappointment or drop off from the defense in recent years. Hopefully this joint practice is not a sign of what is to come in 2025, as it will be seen as the heartbeat of the Steelers, which has been the norm. There shouldn't be a ton of shame with giving up some plays to Tampa Bay's receiving core. Evans is a future first ballot Hall of Famer, and Egbuka is one of the top rookies in the 2025 NFL Draft Class. However, the hopes are higher for the secondary than they have been in recent years. Steelers' Mike Tomlin Expects A Lot From His Defense In 2025 Head Coach Mike Tomlin is a defensive minded individual, and he has high hopes for his defense heading into the 2025 season. He has stated that he believes the defense can cover any group of receivers in the league, and he thinks the unit could be historic. This wasn't a good start, and the defensive coaching staff could be in trouble if the unit does not perform like Tomlin expects. This worry stems from a joint practice, so there is still time for things to improve. Tampa Bay also rosters a talented and well put together offense, so it is completely fair to expect the defense to perform better in Week 1 of the regular season against a team like the New York Jets.
