Top 2024 RB recruit picks Michigan over hometown Buckeyes

The Michigan Wolverines have on-field wins over the Ohio State Buckeyes each of the last two seasons, but their most recent win came on the recruiting trail.

Michigan edged out OSU for four-star prospect Jordan Marshall, the No. 7-ranked running back and No. 3-ranked player in Ohio according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

“Family was the biggest thing for me,” Marshall said, via On3. “Being with (running backs) coach (Mike) Hart’s family and meeting them really meant a lot for me. See how much his family means to him and him knowing what family means to me. Also just the community and culture there. It feels like home every time I step into that building and it’s a freaking amazing place. They have one of the best institutions in the world and I take pride in that and know I have to have a plan after football. I think Michigan gives me the best opportunity. Last one they win. I’m trying to play for national championships. Not just Big Ten champs. But world champions.”

The 5-foot-11, 193-pound Marshall rushed for 1,951 yards and 30 touchdowns as a junior in 2022, adding 19 receptions, 364 yards and four more scores through the air. He was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Ohio.

Marshall, a Cincinnati native, is the third 2024 recruit from Ohio to spurn the Buckeyes for the Wolverines, joining four-star Avon High School offensive tackle Luke Hamilton (No. 11-ranked player in Ohio) and three-star St. Xavier High School defensive lineman Ted Hammond (No. 14-ranked player in Ohio).

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh has recruited Ohio heavily over the last few seasons. He had just nine recruits from the state in his first seven recruiting classes, but he added four Ohio players last season, and he’s landed three so far this year and he has offers to another 10 players.
