Top Notre Dame flip target went viral for his absurd season opening performance over the weekend as the Irish continue to push

With the recent running back trend, as well as the continued recruiting prowess of running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider, Notre Dame football has created a ton of momentum in the backfield for the future. The current room that features Jeremiyah Love, Jadarian Price, and Aneyas Williams is tremendous, and this feels like just the beginning.

Under Coach Seider and head coach Marcus Freeman, there is a natural attraction to high-level talent, and that interest is reciprocated. You can find evidence of that in the 2026 recruiting class, where the Irish hold commitments from Javian Osborne and Jonaz Walton. Losing a player like Love after the 2025 season more than likely would be a death blow for most programs, but the running back position has long-term stability with this type of recruiting and development.

In the 2027 recruiting class, the Fighting Irish once again have their eyes set on some extraordinary talents. There isn’t a better example than elite 2027 McKeesport (Pa.) High School running back Kemon Spell. The Pennsylvania native was previously committed to Seider while he was a part of the Penn State program, and Notre Dame is now pushing hard for a commitment flip.

Spell is already set to visit South Bend on October 18th for their matchup against the USC Trojans, so there is clearly some interest on his side. If he does opt to flip, it feels like Notre Dame is the most likely destination. We will see how things trend moving forward, especially after a hopefully strong visit.

For Irish fans, it’s going to be hard not to be excited about the potential that Spell would bring to the next level. That’s especially true after this past weekend during his performance against Delaware Valley. It was a performance to remember, and it was only the first game.

In their 51 to 24 victory, Spell managed to score five touchdowns. On the day, he rushed for 293 yards on the ground. Spell also returned a kickoff for a touchdown as well. His combination of playmaking skills, elusiveness, and blazing speed was a sight to behold.

Spell is currently ranked as at least a four-star recruit by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247Sports Composite ranking, Spell is pegged as of now as a five-star player. He sits as the No. 9 overall player, No. 1 running back, and No. 1 player in the state of Pennsylvania for the 2027 recruiting class on that ranking.

Even with an early commitment to the Nittany Lions, a long list of impressive programs have continued to pursue Spell heavily. Some of his top offers so far include the Fighting Irish, Tennessee, Michigan, Penn State, Florida State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, and UCLA among many others.

As a sophomore in 2024, Spell put together an incredible season for McKeesport. The 5-9, 205-pound runner managed to rush for 1,681 yards and 24 touchdowns, while also averaging an insane 10.7 yards per carry. Spell also averaged nearly 14 yards per carry as a freshman on his way to 517 yards and 12 rushing touchdowns in 2023.
